hydropower pro
Book nowIHA’s San José Declaration says, “Going forward the only acceptable hydropower is sustainable hydropower” and it is important to us that the 2023 World Hydropower Congress is also as sustainable as possible. We understand that face to face events result in larger carbon footprints, but we believe that the opportunity this networking affords the development of sustainable hydropower and clean energy transition goes some way to outweigh this negative impact. Here are some other ways in which we are looking to minimise our footprint:
We have chosen a venue; the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center that prides themselves on an environmentally friendly approach to event delivery. Set in 45,000 sq.m of green landscape supporting a biodiverse list of tropical plants, the Center itself uses the following elements to manage their impacts:
· Sewage Treatment Plant
· Greywater used to water plants
· Reverse osmosis water treatment system
· Temporary storage of hazardous and toxic substances
· A double skin façade for enhanced passive cooling
· LED lighting system
· Strategic layout that incorporates natural lighting into the building
· Use of fresh, local and seasonal ingredients in kitchen production
· Food served on chinaware with cutlery and linen to reduce the use of disposables.
In October 2020, at the height of the global pandemic, the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center achieved a 100% final score on the official Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) certification from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, which confirmed the venue’s full adherence with the ‘new normal’ tourism standards and the Covid-19 handling guidelines.
Please find more on the Bali Nusa Convention Center's environmentally friendly practices here.
Local sustainability partner
We are partnering with local social enterprise CarbonEthics, an organisation that aims to restore the climate balance through nature-based solutions with pioneers in blue carbon conservation. It has evolved from a not-for-profit into a social enterprise that offers climate solutions such as carbon emission calculation, carbon policy and advocacy and climate friendly travel.
CarbonEthics has created a bespoke carbon calculator for all Congress attendees.
We encourage all those interested in the Congress to visit the CarbonEthics website and offer a contribution towards their projects which include mangrove plantations, coral restoration and local community support.
