Dr Edwin Sia is a Senior Biologist under the Environmental Sciences division of the Research and Development (R&D) department of Sarawak Energy. His current research is guided by the Hydropower Sustainability Standard and includes the Greenhouse Gases Research Programme, which is one of the key future states of the Hydro Environmental Sciences Research Blueprint, an R&D initiative that consists of seven key future states. The research stems from a need to better understand the impacts of hydropower development, in particular the greenhouse gas budgets of tropical hydropower reservoirs and its carbon budgets. Dr Sia is keen to utilise automation for field process improvements as well as remote sensing strategies to enhance the large-scale monitoring of sinks or sources of greenhouse gases in hydropower reservoirs.
